3. How we make money

SYMO Interactive is a commercial business. Our revenue supports the production of podcasts, videos, educational resources, websites and other services.

We may earn revenue through:

  • Podcast, video, newsletter and website advertising.

  • Paid sponsorships, branded content and commercial partnerships.

  • Fees for speaking engagements, appearances and events.

  • Sales of books, online courses, webinars, educational products and other services.

  • Referral fees from financial advisers, mortgage brokers, accountants and other professional service providers, where permitted by law.

  • Affiliate marketing arrangements, including commissions or other benefits received when someone purchases a product or service through links we provide. This may include links to books through Amazon or other retailers, educational resources, software, subscriptions and other products or services.

  • Website advertising, digital advertising networks and platform monetisation, including revenue generated through YouTube and other content platforms.

  • Other lawful commercial arrangements connected with our content, brands and services.

Commercial arrangements may involve fixed fees, ongoing payments, performance-based fees, commissions, referral fees, advertising fees or other benefits. All our commercial relationships are conducted in accordance with applicable Australian laws and regulatory requirements, including relevant financial services, consumer protection and advertising obligations.

Where we receive an affiliate commission from a purchase, this will not increase the price paid by the purchaser, although prices and offers are determined by the relevant retailer or provider.

The existence of a commercial arrangement does not necessarily mean we recommend a particular product or service as suitable for your personal circumstances.

4. Advertising, sponsorships, affiliate links and paid content

Some of our content is supported by advertisers, sponsors, affiliate partners and other commercial partners.

An advertiser may pay SYMO to sponsor an episode, appear in a branded segment, advertise on our websites or newsletters, or participate in other promotional activities.

Some links on our websites, podcasts, newsletters, social media channels, show notes and other content may be affiliate links.

If you click an affiliate link and subsequently purchase a product or service, we may receive a commission or other commercial benefit from the retailer, supplier or affiliate network.

For example, we may earn a commission when someone purchases a book through an Amazon affiliate link or purchases another product or service through a tracked referral link.

Affiliate relationships may involve cookies, tracking links or other attribution technologies operated by the relevant provider.

We aim to clearly identify commercial relationships where required, including by placing disclosures close to relevant affiliate links and identifying sponsored or paid promotional content.

Advertisers and sponsors may have input into the factual description of their products or services, but this does not necessarily mean they control all editorial opinions expressed by our presenters.

Any claims, offers, product features, pricing or terms provided by advertisers should be independently verified with the relevant provider.

Advertising, sponsorship and affiliate arrangements may change without notice.

5. Referrals to financial advisers, mortgage brokers and other professionals

Through our websites and referral services, we may introduce individuals to financial advisers, mortgage brokers, accountants or other professional service providers.

Where you request an introduction, we may collect relevant contact details and high-level information about your financial circumstances, goals and requirements.

With your authorisation, we may disclose this information to one or more relevant professionals to facilitate the introduction.

We may receive a referral fee or other commercial benefit from the professional or business receiving the introduction.

Referral fees may be fixed amounts, percentage-based fees, ongoing payments or other agreed commercial arrangements, subject to applicable law.

Some professionals may not pay us a referral fee.

We aim to introduce people to professionals we consider potentially appropriate for their stated needs. However, we do not guarantee that any professional will be suitable for you or that you will receive a particular outcome.

Any financial advice, credit assistance, taxation advice or other professional service subsequently provided is subject to the relevant professional's own obligations, authorisations, terms, fees and disclosures.

Using our referral introduction service does not itself attract a separate fee payable to SYMO, unless expressly disclosed otherwise.

Fees and charges may apply to services provided by the professional to whom you are referred.

You are under no obligation to engage a professional introduced by us.

6. Ownership interests and potential conflicts

Glen James holds a minority ownership interest in Tallowwood Wealth Advice Pty Ltd.

This means Glen James may have a financial interest in the success and performance of that business.

We disclose this relationship so individuals can make an informed decision about whether to proceed with an introduction.

We may also have other commercial relationships, referral arrangements or business interests that could give rise to actual, potential or perceived conflicts.

We seek to identify, disclose and manage conflicts in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory obligations.

You are free to seek advice from any appropriately licensed professional, including professionals with whom we have no commercial relationship.

7. Independence and editorial integrity

We aim to produce useful, accurate and balanced content.

However, our business receives commercial revenue from advertising, sponsorships, referrals, affiliate arrangements and other activities.

Accordingly, our content should not be understood as being free from all commercial relationships or potential conflicts of interest.

We seek to distinguish editorial content from advertising and promotional content where required.

Opinions expressed by presenters, guests and contributors may differ.

A guest appearance, interview, sponsorship, affiliate relationship or advertising arrangement does not necessarily constitute an endorsement of that person's products, services, opinions or business.

8. Accuracy, currency and reliance on information

We make reasonable efforts to ensure our information is accurate and current when published.

However, financial markets, interest rates, taxation rules, legislation, government policies, financial products and other circumstances can change.

Our content may become outdated, incomplete or inaccurate after publication.

Examples, projections, investment returns, calculations and case studies are generally illustrative unless otherwise stated.

Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance.

We do not guarantee any particular investment, financial, property, lending or other outcome.

To the extent permitted by law, SYMO excludes liability for loss arising from reliance on information provided through its general educational content.

Nothing in this disclosure excludes, restricts or modifies any right, guarantee, remedy or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under Australian law.

9. Guests and third-party contributors

Our content may feature guests, interviewees, experts, advertisers, sponsors and other contributors. We will disclose if we are being paid for such content. Words such as “this is a sponsored episode” will clearly appear in the show description and at the top of the episode the host will say “this episode is brought to you by (company name).

A guest's professional qualifications, licensing arrangements and regulatory obligations are their own responsibility.

Where appropriate, individuals should independently verify the qualifications, licensing status and professional standing of a guest before engaging their services.

10. Third-party websites, products and services

Our websites and content may contain links to external websites, financial institutions, professional service providers, advertisers, retailers, affiliate partners and other businesses.

We do not control the operation, security, privacy practices, accuracy or availability of independently operated third-party websites.

A link or reference does not necessarily constitute an endorsement.

We may receive compensation when users visit, register with or purchase from certain third-party websites through our links, where permitted by law.

Before using a third-party service, you should review its terms, privacy policy, fees and relevant disclosures.

11. Privacy and personal information

We take the protection of personal information seriously.

We may collect personal information through our websites, forms, enquiries, educational platforms and referral services.

We do not request sensitive information as defined under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) through our initial referral enquiry forms.

We also do not request bank account numbers, tax file numbers, passwords, identity documents or full dates of birth through those forms.

Information collected may be processed through third-party technology providers and disclosed to relevant professional service providers where authorised and appropriate.

We may use website analytics, advertising pixels, cookies and other tracking technologies to understand website activity, measure advertising performance and attribute purchases or referrals.

These technologies may be operated by us or third-party providers and are subject to our Privacy Policy and, where applicable, the relevant provider's privacy practices.

Our full Privacy Policy explains our collection, use, disclosure, storage, security and handling of personal information.

Comments, messages, posts and other content submitted to these platforms may be publicly visible and subject to the relevant platform's terms and privacy practices.

We do not control how independently operated social media platforms collect, store, process or use personal information.

We may moderate, remove or restrict content where platform functionality permits, but cannot guarantee the accuracy, appropriateness or availability of third-party comments.

We encourage users not to disclose private financial information, personal identification details or other confidential information in public comments.
